The Instability Of The Signal
Director: Isao Yamada | 2024 | 48 min | Japan | No dialogue
Instability of the Signal (Mute Records, 2024) is a visual counterpart to Simon Fisher Turner's intimate album, in which piano, strings, detuned guitar, voice and field recordings merge into a fragile sonic landscape. Directed by Japanese filmmaker Isao Yamada and shot on expired Super 8 stock, the hand-edited film draws on Yamada's "Yamavicascope" practice of private, material-based, chance-driven filmmaking. The result is a fragmented visual stream that functions as an impressionistic archive of his decades-long artistic relationship with Turner.
Simon Fisher Turner is present at the screening.
