Sisso & Maiko

Sisso & Maiko are a duo of music producers from Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. They produce singeli, a fast-paced electronic dance music genre rooted in Tanzanian ngoma and taarab traditions, often reaching tempos of between 200 and 300 beats per minute (BPM).

Sisso and Maiko met in 2021, when Maiko arrived in Dar es Salaam seeking new musical opportunities. The two quickly became friends and decided to join forces as the duo Sisso & Maiko. Known for their distinctive live performances, Maiko plays wild, energetic keyboard melodies while Sisso manipulates sound using a keyboard and his signature Virtual DJ techniques.

They soon signed with Hakuna Kulala and Nyege Nyege Tapes, leading to performances at the Nyege Nyege Festival in 2022 and 2023. Following these appearances, they collaborated with Afro Pollination and continued developing their sound, culminating in the release of their sought-after album Singeli Ya Maajabu in 2024.

Today, Sisso & Maiko perform regularly at clubs, events, and festivals across Africa and Europe.
