Artist & Curator Talk: Mika Taanila and Saara Karhunen
Thursday 29.8. at 16, Oulu City Hall
Ear Worm – Media Art from Kiasma exhibition, on display at Oulu City Hall, presents video works in which music and sound play a significant role in their atmosphere and narrative. Through sound, the moving image works expand into space, making the experience of them multisensory.
Curated by art historian Saara Karhunen from the Finnish National Gallery's collection, the exhibition features Mika Taanila's iconic music video Birdy, directed for 22-Pistepirkko in the 1990s. Taanila was awarded OMVF's Golden Pumpeli as early as 1995 and is one of Finland's most internationally recognised contemporary artists, whose works have been shown at the Venice Biennale, Documenta and the Toronto International Film Festival, among others.
At the artist and curator talk, Mika Taanila and Saara Karhunen will be interviewed by OMVF's Artistic Director and Editor-in-Chief of Taide magazine, Joel Karppanen.
