Attention Bristol! We are in town and this Sunday we will be screening the mesmerising documentary Sähkö as well as a curated assortment of rare Finnish music videos!

Sähkö (1995) is the cult documentary on Sähkö Recordings, the legendary Finnish record label home to, amongst other great music, Mika Vainio’s seminal work. The movie is a snapshot in time of the label and its artists. Exclusive footage of Vainio, Mono Junk and others working on music, touring and creating their own instruments, offers a unique glimpse into their uncompromising DIY ethos. This is a must-see film for all fans of electronic music!

The movie is followed by an hour-long screening of Leftfield and Obscure Finnish music videos. Want to see the Bomfunk Mcs rapper Raymond Ebanks’ early forays into hip-hop in what is perhaps the first Finnish hip-hop music video? Interested in the intersection between tracker-ghettotech and traditional Finnish tango? This screening brings abstract and grainy film footage into dialogue with 90’s computer graphics, with music ranging from EBM and acid to ambient experimentalism. Don’t miss it, as most of these videos are not on Youtube and this is your once-in-lifetime opportunity to see them!
