OMVF in London!

Oulu Music Video Festival lands in London as part of the Community Knows No Borders event taking place this Saturday in Silvertown. The programme includes a screening of Jimi Tenor’s documentary Sähkö (1995) as well as a curated selection of rare Finnish music videos.

Sähkö is a unique documentary on the pioneering Finnish record label Sähkö Recordings. Sähkö's releases have influenced a genertion of electronic music producers. Narratively experimental, the film offers a portrait of Sähkö Recordings and its activities in the mid-1990s. It includes rare video footage of artists like Mika Vainoa and Mono Junk performing, working on music and touring.

Leftfield & Obscure Finnish Music Videos 1994–2025 is a one-hour programme curated by OMVF executive director Juhani Oivo. These mind-expanding videos have been selected from OMVF’s archive, the world’s largest collection of Finnish music videos. You have probably not seen any of these videos, and most of them you will never see again, as many of them are not even on Youtube. With music ranging from ambient to electro and early hip-hop to Finnish tango, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to dive into the alternative side of Finnish audiovisual expression.

During the evening the event will also feature a large number of DJs and artists. Travelling to London with OMVF is the legendary electro duo Mr Velcro Fastener. The group, formed by Tatu Metsätähti and Tatu Peltonen, has released seminal electro music since the 1990s. Tracks such as Real Robots Don’t Die represent electro at its purest. In recent years Mr Velcro Fastener has also released new music, remixed by major names in the genre such as Aux88.

The venue is REinsTate, a community project in East London where the historic, formerly abandoned Tate Institute building has been transformed into a shared cultural space for local residents, artists and entrepreneurs. More information about the venue can be found at:

The Sähkö documentary and the music video programme will be screened twice during the day at 14:30 and 17:30. Mr Velcro Fastener performs at 20:30.
