2025-09-02

In 2025, the Oulu Music Video Festival organized its first-ever international competition. The competition, open to Nordic directors and directors residing in the Nordic countries, received a total of 116 submissions. From these, 12 music videos from Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Iceland, and Sápmi were selected for the competition program.

This fall, the competition screening will tour several Nordic festivals. On September 19, the best Nordic music videos will be showcased at Nordisk Panorama. The evening will also feature a special program of rare Finnish electronic music videos curated by OMVF’s director Juhani Oivo, alongside a live performance by local act NOS. Later, the competition screening will be shown at the Reykjavík International Film Festival (September 25–October 5, 2025) and at the Bergen International Film Festival (October 15–23, 2025). In addition, Oivo’s curated selection of alternative Finnish music videos will be presented at Alter Festival in Denmark (September 11–13, 2025).

The winner of OMVF’s Nordic competition was Norwegian director Sander August Dahl with his video Honningbarna – Rød Bic. An honorable mention went to Icelandic directors Anna Róshildur B. Bøving and Simon Bendroth for Roshildur – Tími, ekki líða. The jury consisted of Mika Taanila, Billy Roisz, and Marcus Söderlund.

The competition was funded by the Nordic Council of Ministers, with partners TIFF, BIFF, Nordisk Panorama, RIFF, and CSFH.
