The Finnish Music Video Competition accepts videos made by Finnish directors. Directors can participate with videos that haven’t been screened before at the festival. Directors can also participate with videos made for international artists.

Videos sent to the competition will be divided into competition screenings and showcase screenings. All videos will be screened at the festival in free screenings. All videos will take part in the audience award that the public can vote for and will also be archived into the world’s biggest Finnish music video archive administered by OMVF, that currently has 6292 pieces from 1994 to 2021.

The winners will be awarded at the festival’s award celebration Pumpeli Gala on Saturday on the 27th of August. This year the jury consists of the cinematographer and filmmaker Juuso Laitio, member of the 2021 Emma Gala’s jury and culture producer Asta Salomaa and the executive producer of the production and advertising agency NTRNZ, Topi Paananen.

The directors of the videos in the national competition are not only competing for eternal glory but also the top prize of Golden Pumpeli, the winner of which will be awarded with the 2500 € top prize donated by Fotonordic. A young promising director will be awarded with the Teini Pumpeli and an award provided by Toast, the best post-production receives the Post Pumpeli and a product award provided by Hifistudio and Aalto speakers. Best cinematography will be awarded with the Linssipumpeli and by Valofirma and Kamerafirma’s 2000 € equipment rental award. The winner of Kansanpumpeli will receive a R-Collection product gift card. This year’s Pumpeli statues are the handwork of the artist Liisa Tarleena Öhman.

The jury will also award four directors with honorary mentions and The Finnish Music Foundation MES gives out a 2000 € award for work in furthering music video music art.

Oulu Music Video Festival will take place from the 25th to the 28th of August and is a part of Oulu August Festival. The programme will be published in June.
