Joel Karppanen, multidisciplinary artist and cultural personality, has been chosen as the new Artistic Director of Oulu Music Video Festival.
Karppanen has a varied and distinguished career in the art field. Karppanen's short films have been screened at international festivals and he is currently working on his first feature film. His photographs have been showcased in for example Kiasma and his works can be found in the collections of the Finnish Museum of Photography and the State of Finland. Karppanen has directed music videos for Paleface and Satellite Stories, among others.
Karppanen also works as a writer and critic. His articles have been published in Helsingin Sanomat, Suomen Kuvataidelehti and Taide magazine, among others. Karppanen has also been involved in many art organisations and boards. Karppanen has curatorial experience from several exhibitions and events around Finland.
"It's great to be able to take the festival that I love towards the European Capital of Culture year in Oulu. OMVF is an open-minded event, moving between pop and underground culture, offering wild visions to a wide audience and at the same time acting as a forum for professionals. I intend to bring bold music videos and films that challenge both ideas and forms to the festival's programme" Karppanen says of his plans.
OMVF's previous Artistic Director was artist Anna-Mari Nousiainen who think for their hard and amazing work during the past years!
