The 18th edition of the Oulu Music Video Festival spreads the love again for five days on 24-28 August 2011. In addition to flashiest Finnish music videos, the festival runs a spectre of multi-colored Special Screenings programme. This year's programme is packed with videos that honour the dashing artists and their work, from the classiest boy bands of the 90's to the icon-like razzmatazz of Freddie Mercury! When your eyes get tired of the on-screen glitz and glamour, find your way to our Live Clubs and the funkiest electro-music event Time Tunnel.
Retrospective of Finnish Music Legend Danny Opens Festival
Music Video Festival pays a tribute to the Finnish pop icon Danny who has livened up the domestic music scene from the 1960's. Retrospective highlights the 45-year-long career of The Danny Show and takes the audience through the most memorable moments of his career. The second retrospective of the festival focuses on the works of the renowed Finnish director Miikka Lommi who has made a respectable career directing commercials and music videos. Despite commitment and ever lasting love for music videos, OMVF will spice things up with a cheeky fling with another genre: we will also screen the unique short films by Ars Fennica awarded director Anssi Kasitonni.
From Rock-Opera to boy bands
With 40 years since the legendary group formed, British rock monster Queen glistens in the deserved limelight during the festival. By screening the very best videos of the band, the festival salutes Freddie Mercury, one of the most beloved stars of rock history.
In addition, the Special Screenings include a collection of the most showy music videos and the dazzling artists behind them. If glam and glitter is not your cup of tea, different kind of sensations are available at Rock Your Body with the Right Stuff, Babe! - screening that provides a sizzling insight to 90's boy band hysteria. When it comes to street cred, nothing beats the ravishing electro-video screenings. Festival hasn't forgotten fans of metal, either: a screening of the cinematic metal videos will pamper those who prefer the heavier stuff.
