The Oulu Music Video Festival (OMVF) is rapidly growing into an internationally renowned festival of music and moving pictures. The Air Guitar World Championships, the mischievous offspring of the OMVF, has succeeded in awakening the interest of international media in the festival. The festival is annually visited by dozens of foreign reporters; including some of the largest dailies in the world, music magazines, lifestyle publications, news agencies, broadcasting channels, radio stations and production companies.

The Air Guitar World Championships has grown into a network of national qualifications held in Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Belgium, Canada, Colombia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Japan, Mexico, the Netherlands, Norway, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Switzerland, Thailand, Taiwan, Ukraine, the United Kingdom and the United States. The OMVF effectively reaches music and film enthusiasts between the age of 15 and 35. Nationally the festival functions as a meeting place for young professionals and students of the audiovisual field. Annually the festival attracts a crowd of 12,000 and through the national and international media coverage it reaches yet a wider audience.

The festival is arranged by the Oulu Music Video Festival, which is an independent non-profit association.
